'Bloody Good Headline' wins at IFI Stranger Than Fiction Doc Fest

'Bloody Good Headline', the latest documentary film from Areaman Productions, premiered at this year's IFI Stranger Than Fiction Documentary Film Festival and won the Jury Award for Best Short Documentary.

The film, directed by Tom Burke and Paul Quinn, and produced by Shane Hogan, explores the experience of the orange-vested newspaper sellers who dot Dublin's city streets in the mornings and evenings. The newspaper sellers have outlooks as diverse as their varied places of origin, and they speak freely about their unusual working lives.

Voice Recording for 'Song of The Sea' at Ardmore Sound

Song of the Sea, directed by Tomm Moore (The Secret of Kells) is the new feature animation film from Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon. The film tells the story of the last Seal Child’s journey home. It recently had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival receiving some glowing reviews from Indiewire, The Hollywood Reporter and Twitchfilm.

Ardmore Sound had the pleasure of recording the vocal talents of many of the actors for the film including Brendan Gleeson, Pat Shortt, Lisa Hannigan, Fionnula Flannagan and David Rawle. Cartoon Saloon have kept an extensive production blog for the film and have posted some lovely pictures from the recording sessions with us here on The Main Stage, which were engineered and recorded by Garret Farrell.

An animated feature film from Oscar nominated Tomm Moore SONG OF THE SEA tells the story of Ben and his little sister Saoirse -- the last Seal-child -- who embark on a fantastic journey across a fading world of ancient legend and magic in an attempt to return to their home by the sea.

Foley Workshops at the Killdruddery Film Festival this weekend

Ardmore Sound's Caoimhe Doyle and Jean McGrath were invited onto Tubridy on RTE 2FM this morning ahead of the Killdruddery Film Festival, which takes place in Kilruddery, Bray this Friday 19th - Sunday 21st September.  Lots of fun was had by all as they demonstrated how, with a hot water bottle and a few items from your kitchen press, you too can create the sound effects for your favourite gangster TV show. Caoimhe and Jean will be running two workshops at the Killdruddery Film Festival tomorrow Saturday 20th, one for adults and one for children. Tickets for the workshops can be bought from the Killruddery website.

Film Sound and Sound Design Workshop at Fingal Film Festival

Niall Brady and Steve Fanagan from Ardmore Sound and Screen Scene will be giving a day long workshop on film sound and sound design on Saturday 27th September as part of the Fingal Film Festival. The workshop will begin with a screening of 'Frank'  at 10am at Movies-at-Swords. After the screening Niall and Steve will talk about the work that goes into creating the various elements and layers that make up any film soundtrack using various scenes from the film.

Irish release of 'FRANK' on DVD and Blu-Ray today

Lenny Abrahamson's 'Frank' is being released on DVD, Blu-ray and On-Demand from iTunes and Volta.ie to rent or buy in Ireland today. The film which starts Michael Fassbender, Domhnall Gleeson, and Maggie Gyllenhaal is currently on general release in the U.S. It also opened in South Korea this week.

The DVD and Blu-ray have a number of special features including Director’s commentary , Writers’ commentary and deleted scenes. It also contains a 'Behind The Sounds' featurette which takes a closer look at the sound post production process on the film. 'Frank' completed sound design, sound editing, foley and sound mixing here at Ardmore Sound.

Stephen Rennick's score and music from the film is now available on iTunes.

'Frank' is available to buy on DVD and Blu-ray nationwide and On-Demand from iTunes and Volta.ie. 

'Bloody Good Headline' to Premiere at IFI Stranger Than Fiction

'Bloody Good Headline' the latest film from Areaman Productions, is to have its premiere at this year's IFI Stranger Than Fiction Documentary Film Festival. The film, directed by Tom Burke and Paul Quinn, and produced by Shane Hogan, takes a look at the lives and thoughts of five men who sell newspapers in Dublin's rush hour traffic. It screens as part of the latest collection of short documentary films made under Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board's Reality Bites short Film scheme, on Saturday, September 27th at 5pm, in the IFI.

Full sound post production on the film was completed by Ardmore Sound. Steve Fanagan worked on the sound design and final mix in Centre Stage 1.

'Patrick’s Day' wins the Screen Directors Guild ‘Finders Series’ Award

Terry McMahon’s award winning and critically acclaimed film, Patrick’s Day, has won the Screen Directors Guild ‘Finders Series’ Award. The award will see the Director’s Guild of America host a screening of the film for an industry audience at the DGA Theatre in Los Angeles on October 10th.

Written and Directed by McMahon, the film stars Kerry Fox (Shallow Grave), Moe Dunford (Vikings), Catherine Walker (Strike Back) and Philip Jackson (Little Voice). Full foley for the film was recorded at Ardmore Sound and Ken Galvin mixed it in Centre Stage 2.

Produced by Tim Palmer (Into the West) and Rachel Lysaght (The Pipe), Patrick's Day premiered at this years SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas and won the ‘Best Irish Feature Film’ at this summer's Galway Film Fleadh. It is set for cinema release later this year. Watch the trailer below:

Winner of the Audience Award for 'Best Film' at the 26th Galway Film Fleadh 'Patrick's Day' tells the story of young man with mental health issues who becomes intimate with a suicidal air hostess but, when his obsessive mother enlists a dysfunctional cop to separate them, illusion and reality collide.

'Charlie' announced as part of RTÉ's Autumn Schedule

'Charlie' is a new three-part drama about former Taoiseach, Charlie Haughey, covering his turbulent political career from 1979 to 1992. The 3x90minute episodes were directed by Kenny Glenaan and Charlie McCarthy, and star Aidan Gillan as Charlie and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor as PJ Mara, Charlie's spin doctor. The series was produced by Touchpaper and Element Pictures and has been announced as part of RTÉ's Autumn Schedule.

CODA continues to screen at festivals through August

CODA, Alan Holly's animated short film, continues to show at international festivals throughout August.  This month it will play at the Anibar animation festival in Kosovo, at the Odense International Film Festival in Denmark, and the Festival Silhouette in Paris. The film has already won awards at this years Edinbrugh Short Film Festival (Most Creative Short Award) and SXSW (Best Animated Short).

The sound design for the short was completed by Michelle Fingleton and the mix was completed by Garret Farrell.

Welcome to the new Ardmore Sound website. The new layout highlights the range of Sound Design, Sound Mixing, ADR and Foley facilities we offer across our two locations; one on the lot at Ardmore Studios in Bray, and the other at Screen Scene in Dublin's city centre.

The website represents the breath of work that we have been involved in over recent years. The new design will be regularly updated and contains built-in links to the Ardmore Sound Twitter, Facebook, Vimeo and Instagram accounts where you can keep up-to-date on our news and other film sound items. We hope the evolution of the website will be an expression of our passion for film and television sound, and the experience we as a team bring to each and every project.

FRANK Post Production Sound Team Featurette

Lenny Abrahamson's "Frank" starring Michael Fassbender, Domhnall Gleeson, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Scoot McNairy is being released in the U.S and Canada this month from Aug 15th. 

"Frank" completed sound design, sound editing, foley and sound mixing at Ardmore Sound. After we finished working on the film at the end of 2013, we put together this short featurette about the sound post process for the film.

MISS JULIE World Premier at Toronto Film Festival 2014

"Miss Julie" will have it's world premier at this year's Toronto Film Festival. The film is directed by Liv Ullman, and stars Jessica Chastain, Colin Farrel and Samantha Morton.

The film was mixed at Ardmore Sound by Michelle Cuniffe and Steve Fanagan. Caoimhe Doyle and Jean McGrath provided the foley. The post sound was supervised by Stefan Henrix.

GLASSLAND, PATRICK'S DAY and I USED TO LIVE HERE win at Galway Film Fleadh

Gerard Barret's "Glassland" and Terry McMahon's "Patrick’s Day" shared the award for Best Irish Feature and Frank Berry’s "I Used To Live Here" received the award for Best Irish First Feature at the Galway Film Fleadh.

Niall Brady and Steve Fanagan completed the sound design on "Glassland" and Ken Galvin mixed it in Centre Stage 2 at Screen Scene. Ken also completed the mix on "Patrick's Day" in Centre Stage 2. 

Garret Farrell completed the sound mix on "I Used to Live Here" in Centre Stage 2.

GLASSLAND World Premiere Galway Film Fleadh

‘Glassland’, the new feature film by writer/director Gerard Barrett (Pilgrim Hill), has it's world

premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh this evening. The film was produced by Ed Guiney (‘Frank’,

‘What Richard Did’, ‘The Guard’) and Juliette Bonass (‘Get Up and Go’) for Element Pictures in

association with Barrett’s NINE.
